OpenCode Go usage limits, explained
OpenCode Go doesn’t count messages or tokens. It gives every model a monthly allowance in dollars and lets you spend only part of it in any five hours or any week.
Short answer. OpenCode Go costs $10 a month and Go Plus $40. Each model has a monthly dollar limit. In any five hours you can use up to 20% of it and in a week up to 50%. When a limit is reached, the free models keep working, and “Use balance” lets you continue on Zen credits.
Three windows
| Window | Share of the monthly limit | Example: GLM-5.3-Flash on Go | Same model on Go Plus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 hours | 20% | $12 | $36 |
| Week | 50% | $30 | $90 |
| Month | 100% | $60 | $180 |
The monthly figures ($60 on Go, $180 on Go Plus) are from the OpenCode docs. The five-hour and weekly amounts follow from the 20% and 50% shares. Other models have other monthly allowances; the docs list each one.
The windows stack. Five busy hours can stop you before the week is touched, and a busy week can stop you while the month still has room. OpenCode’s own usage API reports a rolling five-hour window, a weekly window and a monthly one, each with the share used and the time it resets.
Why the limit depends on the model
Because the allowance is in dollars, the number of requests depends on what each model costs per token. A cheap model can serve many times more requests than an expensive one before the same window fills. If you hit the five-hour window often, a cheaper model for routine work stretches it furthest.
What happens at the limit
- Free models keep working. OpenCode offers limited-time free models with no usage limit, so you are not fully stopped.
- Use balance. Turn it on in the OpenCode console and requests past the Go limit are paid from your Zen credits.
- Wait for the window. The five-hour window frees up as time passes; the weekly and monthly ones reset on their own schedule.
How to check your OpenCode Go usage
The OpenCode console shows current usage for your plan. That means opening a browser tab each time you want to know whether the next task fits.
In the MacBook notch with CapaTheNotch
CapaTheNotch shows the OpenCode Go five-hour and weekly windows in the notch, next to Claude Code or Codex, with the time each one resets. The monthly window isn’t drawn, but if the month is used up the card says so in red.
- Sign in to OpenCode with
opencode auth login(a Go or Go Plus subscription is needed). - In CapaTheNotch, open Settings → Providers and turn on OpenCode.
- Agree to let it read your OpenCode Go key from
~/.local/share/opencode/auth.json.
OpenCode has no way to share usage without its key, so this is the one provider CapaTheNotch reads a key for, and only with your consent. The key isn’t stored and is sent only to opencode.ai, to ask for your plan’s usage, at most every five minutes and when you refresh.
